The Orphan Train & Texas
Between 1854 and 1929, about 200,000 orphaned children were sent by rail from eastern cities to rural families in the west by the Children’s Aid Society. The Seguin area saw more than one child deposited with a local family. We’ll share the stories of Seguin’s own Alice O’Brien and the other children brought to Texas – some to loving families, some to be exploited for labor – at August’s Lone Star Story Hour.
